IVF Fertility Conditions

We offer support for the many fertility conditions that are experienced undergoing assisted conception (ART) and IVF. Acupuncture is used to improve fertility by enhancing the care already being received from the IVF clinic. As acupuncture has no negative side effects it is the perfect way to support your journey.

We offer support to patients who are having ART or IVF treatments in London and are experiencing one or more of the following conditions:

“Unexplained infertility” is a frustrating diagnosis to receive as there seems to be no conclusive evidence to explain the reason for the infertility and patients are usually encouraged to think about starting ART or IVF.

Traditional Chinese medicine does not consider any infertility unexplained and as it relies on a different way to diagnose the body can be used to support the body either naturally or alongside ART or IVF.

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) stimulates the maturity and growth of the egg-producing follicles. A high FSH level is an indicator of a lower ovarian reserve because as the ovarian egg reserve diminishes, the pituitary gland must release more and more FSH. It can also indicate declining estrogen levels. Higher FSH levels are a normal as we age, but are of course problematic when we are trying to conceive. FSH levels also often indicate of how well you will respond to IVF treatment. Traditional Chinese Medicine may help to decrease FSH levels when having regular treatments over several months.

Women are born with a fixed number of eggs. The quality and amount are affected by many reasons, such as starting the menstrual cycle very early in life, lifestyle or genetic inheritance and of course their age when trying to conceive.

Acupuncture improves the quality of your eggs by increasing blood flow to your uterus and also helps to improve ovulation by thickening the uterine lining which helps with successful embryo implantation.

Studies show that women with high stress levels are much less likely to conceive. Stress can interfere with blood flow to your reproductive organs. It also affect communication between your brain, pituitary and ovaries, which creates hormonal imbalances throughout your body.

Stress triggers our “fight or flight” response which has the effect of redirecting blood flow away from your reproductive organs. Acupuncture helps relax your nervous system by releasing endorphins which reverse the effects of stress, increases circulation and regulates hormones.

Acupuncture helps to regulate hormonal imbalances by targeting the HPOA (hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian-axis) which is responsible for releasing the correct hormones in a balanced amount into your body. This can be especially beneficial for women faced with high FSH levels, low estrogen levels, luteal phase defects, or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

Men who suffer from low sperm count (how many), compromised sperm, motility (how they swim), morphology (how they look) can all benefit from acupuncture and in particular from herbal remedies and correct supplementation by increasing blood flow and improving underlying imbalances.

Miscarriage can be have many causes including illness, problems with the uterus or cervix, chromosomal abnormalities, hormonal imbalances, as well as advanced maternal age. Traditional Chinese Medicine helps by regulating hormones and optimising progesterone production, thickening the lining of the uterus and may protect against first-trimester miscarriages.

Many women do not ovulate regularly each month. There are many causes of this, including PCOS, stress and advanced maternal age. Research shows that acupuncture can help to start ovulation these cases.
